Endangered, Threatened and Protected Species Expertise
State and Federal regulations pertaining to endangered and threatened species are integral to the permittability of any project. CPE biologists have an in-depth understanding of existing regulations and each project is closely evaluated for any potential impacts to T&E species. Close coordination occurs with all applicable agencies, such as the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), to ensure compliance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA). CPE has conducted numerous Biological Assessments (BA), and our staff is experienced in Section 7 consultation. Through coordination with our engineering staff, our extensive knowledge of T&E species and regulations results in the design of projects that reduce or eliminate potential impacts to listed species and appropriate monitoring programs.
Protected species observation can be a regulatory requirement for some shipboard operations such as dredging and seismic work. CPE's marine biologists and geologists are trained in protected species observation as approved by the U.S. Department of the Interior Minerals Management Service for the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf Region. Additionally our biologists have developed an in-house method of monitoring and enumerating near shore sea turtle populations in project areas.
