Biological ServicesResource MappingPrecise resource mapping is essential to the regulatory agencies' evaluations of permit applications and mitigation requirements as well as the monitoring of potential temporal project effects. CPE’s diverse professionals provide the expertise for an integrated approach toward accurate and detailed benthic mapping. A first step in resource mapping includes the use of side-scan sonar imaging of the seafloor, which is followed by deployment of a DGPS-integrated video camera system that simultaneously position X, Y coordinates on digital video imagery while the onboard biologist reviews the data in real time. Video and images are stored in GIS for highly accurate mapping as well as comprehensive data maintenance. Additional verification of the substrate and assessment of habitat type is provided in situ by CPE’s MSBR divers. In situ mapping of reef or hardbottom contours is also conducted by biologists for analysis of changes in hardbottom exposure in relation to coastal projects or storm events. Continue … |
