Between February and April 2006, dredge contractor Bean Stuyvesant, LLC constructed the Phipps Ocean Park (Reach 7) Beach Nourishment Project, which extended from Phipps Ocean Park to the Ambassador South I condominium in the Town of Palm Beach. Approximately 1,220,000 cubic yards of sand were placed along the 1.9 mile long project area. Two borrow areas were used for the beach nourishment project. Borrow Areas III and IV were located
3,000 feet offshore about 1.5 to 2.6 miles south of the project area. The placed material, where included 154,000 cubic yards of dune fill was used to construct 3.2 miles of dune habitat. The restored dunes extend from Sloan’s Curve to 2850 South Ocean Blvd, and from the Palmbeacher Apartments to the southern limit of the Town. The design of the dune project includes a provision for 24 acres of dune vegetation, which will be planted in late 2006.
