Construction of the renourishment of the Panama City Beaches

The permitting, design, and field investigation needed to bring the project to construction has been lead by Mobile District, Corps of Engineers with assistance from the Bay County TDC, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Coastal Planning & Engineering, Inc. The projects will place approximately 3 million cubic yard of sand along 17 miles shoreline.

The Weeks Marine, Inc. dustpan dredge Beachbuilder arrived at the Port of Panama City on Monday, March 21, 2005. Over the last weekend (April 16 -17) the contractor completed the 1000 ft transition zone at the western end of the project and is proceeding eastward. The contractor will continue with beach placement work on a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week schedule. To date, production has been gradually improving. Sand color has been good. (Corps status reports through 4/18/2005).
