Collier County Beach Renourishment

Field Photographs

The last load of sand for the Collier County Beach Renourishment Project was delivered to Naples Beach in the early morning hours on Tuesday May 23, 2006. The project was constructed by Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company with two hopper dredges. Dredge and fill operations lasted a total of 92 days. The borrow area was nearly 40 miles offshore and the sand has proven to be of excellent quality on the beach.

Sand placement for the project occurred along 8.0 miles of beach in Vanderbilt, Pelican Bay, Park Shore and Naples. The contract yardage was 664,000 CY. The beach was constructed to an average of 100 feet and considering the high quality of the sand, this renourishment project will provide increased storm protection for the project area beaches.
